Letters to Jacob

11/19/12

Dear Jacob -

Thanks for sharing all your internet memes and videos with me. It means a lot that you like to show that stuff to me and let me share in your sense of humor. I am such a proud mom of a funny kid. I like that your humor isn't at the expense of others and isn't cruel or crude. Keep up the good work. Love you!

Dear Jacob-

I would like to take this opportunity to let you know that I am really proud of you. I admire how you handle yourself and stand up for your friends. That story you told me a few days ago about your friend who was freaking out about his parents and his life really touched me. I shake my head in wonder and amazement about what good care you took of him and how you tried to talk to his parents to get them to calm down. There are so many sides to you Jacob and I am really pleased with the young man you are turning into. I hope you always know how much I love you.

Love, Mom

Dear Jakey Poo -

I don't know what this obsession is with your butt. It is a butt. It isn't cute no matter how many girls (real or imagined) tell you so. You are too skinny to have a cute butt, you sag your pants and wear long shirts anyway... so who can even see it?

Dear Jacob-

Remember when you were little and I could never get mad at you because I would turn to scold you and the look on your face made me laugh? And how could I punish you when I was cracking up? Well, it is still hard to stay mad at you, but you need to get on track, your grades are killing me. I get so mad, but I know I won't be as mad when I get home to talk to you about this and you will apologize and promise to do better and I'll forgive you (and believe you) and life will go on.
I am convinced this is your super power. Remember with great power comes great responsibility. Don't over do it or you may just catch me in a super unforgiving mood. You know the ones...

Love, Mom
